Alternative Family Services (AFS) is dedicated to creating brighter futures for foster youth through our comprehensive programs and services. Thanks to the generosity of our community and the success of the Foster Hope campaign, two 13-year-old twin boys, Jayden* and Jordan*, went to basketball camp. This experience proved to be transformative for the boys and everyone involved in making their dream a reality.
Jayden and Jordan entered the foster care system at a young age and have faced numerous challenges. Despite their circumstances, their love for basketball has always been a source of joy and resilience. However, the opportunity to attend a specialized basketball camp seemed like a distant dream—until the Foster Hope campaign made it possible.

The Impact of Basketball Camp
  • Building Confidence: At camp, Jayden and Jordan honed their basketball skills under the guidance of experienced coaches. For the first time, they felt the thrill of being part of a team that believed in their potential. This newfound confidence extended beyond the basketball court as they began to see themselves as capable and worthy individuals.
  • Forming Friendships: The camp environment fostered camaraderie and teamwork. Jayden and Jordan made new friends who shared their passion for basketball, creating a sense of belonging and support. These friendships have become essential to their social development, teaching them the value of collaboration and mutual respect.
  • Learning Life Skills: Beyond basketball techniques, the camp emphasized important life skills such as discipline, perseverance, and leadership. Jayden and Jordan learned to set goals, work hard, and maintain a positive attitude—lessons that will serve them well in all their lives.
  • Creating Positive Memories: For two weeks, Jayden and Jordan experienced the joy of being kids—playing their favorite sport, laughing with friends, and creating memories that will last a lifetime. This respite from their everyday challenges gave them much-needed mental and emotional rejuvenation.
Jayden and Jordan’s story is just one example of how the Foster Hope campaign makes a tangible difference. We are helping foster youth build brighter futures by providing opportunities like summer camp. AFS is immensely grateful to everyone who contributed to this success. Together, we are fostering hope and creating possibilities for all the children we serve.
Thank you for believing in our mission and for your continued support. Your generosity is changing lives, one dream at a time.
