California Closets Helps Resource Families Make Their Homes More Inviting for Foster Youth

Here at AFS, we are honored and humbled to collaborate with a variety of businesses and community organizations who ensure that we can provide the best services, supports, and outcomes to local youth and families navigating the foster care system. One partner that has been especially generous is California Closets.

Founded more than 40 years ago, California Closets is a leader in providing best-in-class storage solutions for the home and office. They currently have over 120 showrooms across North America, including in Walnut Creek, Roseville, San Francisco, and other Northern California locations.

California Closets has a long history of supporting community organizations. They have provided storage solutions for Dress for Success, Ronald McDonald Houses, and many other community partners.

The California Closets and AFS Partnership

California Closets began working with AFS in July 2022. They were looking for additional community organizations to support, and one of their employees, a current AFS Resource Parent, suggested they reach out.

In working with AFS, California Closets is committed to providing custom storage solutions for resource families to support them in their care of children; it could be a new closet that helps with storage or cabinets to store toys in a playroom that helps keep the family organized.

Photos of the first California Closets project are below. This valuable addition was for an AFS resource family in San Francisco. Up next, an AFS Daly City family will be receiving a storage upgrade. By the end of 2023, California Closets is hoping to complete six more projects for AFS resource families caring for children, teens and siblings.

“We are honored to work with AFS resource families to help them make their homes more inviting to local foster youth,” says Kirk Marlow, General Manager for the SF/Peninsula California Closets. “Resource families do so much for foster youth, and our hope is that we can help facilitate their important work by helping them make their homes more functional and inclusive.”

Thank you, California Closets, for your commitment to improve the lives of youth and families cared for by AFS!
