Movers and Shakers: New Job for Former Board President Sam Smalls
Samuel L. Smalls, current longtime member of the AFS Board of Directors and past President of the Board has a new gig! He is now the Treasury and Debt Section Manager in the Office of the CFO for the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.
Sam has had a 30-year career in municipal finance as municipal advisor, state agency executive director and wholesale/investment banker. Sam most recently served as head of California Public Finance at George K. Baum & Co, which was recently acquired by Stifel. Prior to GKB, he worked for Jefferies as a generalist banker, assisting with municipal infrastructure bond financing of over $20 billion as lead or co-senior manager, and over $160 billion as co-manager.
Sam is an alumnus of CORO’s Leadership Southern California leadership development program and has a Bachelor of Arts in Social Studies cum laude from Harvard College. Sam also holds several FINRA licenses, including Series 7, 53, and 63.
