Volunteering

Our fantastic volunteers are one of our most valuable assets at Alternative Family Services. The AFS Network has a variety of opportunities for motivated and qualified individuals or groups who would like to donate their time and experience.

Please review AFS Volunteer Opportunities and contact Jennifer Harper, Director of Development at (510) 759-1271 for more information.

AFS IS ACTIVELY SEEKING VOLUNTEERS

Holiday Volunteers: AFS is seeking volunteers to help with holiday events and finding local sponsors to help fill the holiday wish lists for hundreds of foster children and families.

Special Event Volunteers: AFS, the Oakland Athletics and the Kansas City BBQ Society (KCBS) are teaming up for foster youth for the Bay Area BBQ Championship (www.bayareabbq.org) on July 07, 2012 at the Oakland Coliseum prior to the A’s vs Mariners game. AFS is seeking motivated and enthusiastic volunteers to lend a hand in putting on the Bay Area's premier BBQ championship and to better the lives of foster children, youth and families.

Volunteer Skilled Handymen: AFS foster families are regularly in need of household fixes from plumbing and electrical work to small repairs.

AFS IS LOOKING FOR HOLIDAY
PARTNERS

AFS is seeking community partners to adopt one of our orange wreaths for our Wish Upon a Wreath holiday campaign. A business or community organization can adopt an orange wreath and help fill the holiday gift wishes of hundreds of Northern California foster children and youth. Holiday time can be particularly difficult for these young people.  The season’s strong emphasis on family and closeness often only serves to remind them of how much they have lost. Your holiday gifts can help ease that pain and support a feeling of worth. Please contact Jennifer Harper at (510)759-1271 to participate in Wish Upon a Wreath.
